Work with meBhavna Radia is a former family lawyer turned divorce coach, a single mum of three and the founder of Divorce Right, a divorce education and support service for England and Wales. She helps people going through divorce understand their finances, the family home, pensions, child arrangements and court proceedings in plain English, so they can handle their own divorce and save on legal fees. She runs the Money Saving Divorce Club, an online community for women going through divorce, and hosts Divorce Notes, a podcast for the woman who is more than her divorce.
"I must say you are not only a great divorce coach/ lawyer but a great human being helping women like me who have no clue how and what to do."
My story
I spent years helping clients through separation and divorce. Then came the day I realised my own marriage was over.
I knew the law, and it was still frightening. I was scared of how it would affect my girls, of money and housing, of finding work while bringing up three children, and of what family, friends and the wider community would say. In my family, divorce wasn't something you did. My mum had been brought up to stay no matter what.
I was so scared of telling her that I arranged for my sisters to be there. She told me to stay, and I left in tears. Later that day she rang me back. She said she would support me in whatever I decided, and that she knew I had the strength to do this. From then on she was part of my A team, alongside my girls and my immediate family.
I gave myself time to get ready and prepare. I worked on the numbers: my income, my expenses, how I could earn more, what maintenance I could expect and what I would need to house us. Bringing up the girls on my own was hard, and there were times their mental health suffered. Fifteen years on, they're balanced young adults who tell me I did the right thing. The girls and I became our own little team.
Why Divorce Right exists
One question stayed with me. If divorce was this hard for me, with all my legal training, what must it be like for someone without it, who is frightened and can't afford a solicitor for every step?
So many decisions in a divorce are life-changing, and you're often making them with no one to explain things in plain English. I set up Divorce Right to be that person for you.
I touch people at the hardest time of their lives. I change the language so things stop sounding so complicated. A lot of my work is mindset and confidence, because by the time you find me you may have been told you can't do this. I give you the knowledge to handle your own divorce, from the finances and the mortgage to co-parenting, communication and boundaries, and I help you save money on legal fees along the way.
My mum's words
My mum died seven years ago. Before she passed she told me to live a life I won't regret, to live my dreams, to concentrate on my mission and to get my voice heard. Divorce Notes, my podcast, is me doing exactly that.
If you're carrying this fear, I hope you find someone who stands by you like the way my mum did.Listen to Divorce Notes

Position statements, Form E, speaking notes, letters and emails to your ex or his solicitor.
I don't go to court or represent you. When you need a solicitor or a barrister for part of your case, I'll tell you, so you pay for legal help on purpose.
